Admission Arrangements

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.

The Board of Governors draws up the admissions criteria and delegates to an Admissions Sub-Committee, which includes the Principal, the responsibility for applying these criteria.

Admissions Criteria

In all cases of consideration for admission, priority will be given to children who are resident in Northern Ireland at the time of their application for admission.  It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that any relevant information relating to the admissions criteria is included on the Application Form or is attached to that Form.

Year 1 Intake

It is the declared aim of the school to offer an education that truly reflects the needs and wishes of the broadest possible community in the area.

Initially the criteria as set out below will be applied to members of other traditions/non-religious backgrounds in the order set down and a maximum of 20% of available places will be awarded to this group.  The criteria will then be applied separately to Protestant and Roman Catholic applicants in such a way as to allocate the remaining places as close as possible to a ratio of 70% Protestant and 30% Roman Catholic pupils.  In the event of any religious or other category not meeting its quota the balance will be divided equally between the other categories.  In the event of there being an odd number of places in the excess of places remaining the additional place will be allocated to the category having the greater number of applicants.

The religious affiliation of a pupil will be decided by assessing the information supplied to the school by the parent/guardian on the school’s pre-enrolment forms.  The Board of Governors reserves the right to seek information regarding the religious affiliation of the applicant.

In the event of over-subscription by children of compulsory school age the following criteria will be used in the order set down.

1        Preference will be given to children with a brother or sister (half-brother/sister) currently enrolled in the school.

2        Other Applicants.

In the event of over-subscription in criteria 1-2 children will be selected on the basis of the proximity of their home to the school as measured by walking distance by road or surfaced footpath.  Where 2 or more children live equidistant from the school final selection will be by lot.

Duty to Verify

The Board of Governors reserves the right to require such supplementary evidence as it may determine to support or verify information on any application form.

If the requested evidence is not provided to the Board of Governors by the deadline given, this will result in the withdrawal of an offer of a place.  Similarly, if information is supplied which appears to be false or misleading in any material way, the offer of a place will be withdrawn.
